Feeling Overwhelmed

I hope to be finishing school this year. As such, I've loaded up on courses. Its been a little hectic.

I'm taking six courses this semester alone, and its easy to get overwhelmed. To cope with stress, I remind myself to take every test, every paper, every exam, every assignment one step and one day at a time. There are always those things that will fall to the last minute, but planning and organizing tasks go a long way.

What are some ways you cope with stress?

Summer Internships

In an urbanized, highly-populated city like Toronto, it is so difficult to land a summer internship; especially one that pays!

I've been fortunate enough to have two. My first internship was at TeamBuy, an e-commerce daily deals site. I worked as an unpaid intern in their Toronto office for six months. The experience was great. It was my first step into the actual world of marketing, even if in a small role. I learned about reporting, metrics, and office etiquette.

My second internship was with BlueBand Digital. I worked mainly as an Event Co-ordinator for an event which they plan every summer called DesiFEST. I was responsible for contacting the artists as well as preparing Media and Artists Kits. It was a great experience and even better environment. I met some great people and made good connections while working there.

So for those of you looking for a job, remember, its possible. You need to be good to be lucky and lucky to be good.

Hopefully me and you are fortunate enough to find a position with a great company this summer.

My Business Idea

In my E-Marketing class, I learned about the concept of Location-Based Marketing. When my professor was explaining the concept to me, I was put in a state of shock. Not because I had never heard of the concept, but rather because it was a term that was eluding me all this time.

While writing one of my exams, I came up with a business idea. I thought about how people were now using applications such as Foursquare, Facebook and Twitter Check-Ins, etc, to show the world where they are or were. My train of thought was: why can't companies check in to YOU?

I was specifically writing down the definitions of pull and push marketing when it came to me. Instead of a consumer saying "I'm checking into Moxie's", why cant Moxie's say "I'm checking into Jim"? That is where my idea came from.

I don't want to reveal too much yet, but I am extremely excited to get started on this journey and I hope you will join me!
